A heap-based buffer overflow exists in the CreateDIBPatternBrushPt function within the GDI component of Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4, XP SP2, Server 2003 SP1/SP2, Vista, and Server 2008. The vulnerability is triggered by processing a specially crafted EMF or WMF image file with a malformed header, leading to an integer overflow and subsequent heap corruption. Successful exploitation allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code in the context of the affected process.
