CVE-2008-3271 is a race condition in Apache Tomcat RequestFilterValve-derived access-control valves: RemoteFilterValve, RemoteAddrValve, and RemoteHostValve. Apache Tomcat 5.5.0 and 4.1.0 through 4.1.31 do not safely synchronize per-request state. Under a rare concurrent two-thread request-processing sequence, one request can overwrite an instance variable used by another request's filter evaluation, causing the valve to incorrectly allow a client from a non-permitted IP address to access a protected context.
