A denial of service vulnerability exists in the REXML module of Ruby 1.8.6 through 1.8.6-p287, 1.8.7 through 1.8.7-p72, and 1.9, where context-dependent attackers can cause excessive CPU consumption by submitting XML documents with recursively nested entities (XML entity explosion). This is due to insufficient restriction on entity expansion in the XML parser.
