The NMS DVD Burning SDK ActiveX control (NMSDVDX.DVDEngineX.1, NMSDVDX.dll) version 1.013C and earlier, as used in applications such as CDBurnerXP 4.2.1.976, BurnAware 2.1.3, and Blaze Media Pro 8.02 Special Edition, exposes methods (EnableLog and LogMessage) that allow remote attackers to create or overwrite arbitrary files on the system. This vulnerability can be exploited via a malicious web page that instantiates the vulnerable ActiveX control, leading to arbitrary file creation or overwrite. In certain scenarios, this can be leveraged for remote code execution, for example by writing files that are then accessed via hcp:// URLs.
