CVE-2008-5106 is a buffer overflow vulnerability in KarjaSoft Sami FTP Server 2.0.x. A remote attacker can send an FTP command containing an overly long argument to an arbitrary command. The vulnerable condition is triggered later when the resulting SamyFtp.binlog log file is viewed in the management console, causing a buffer overflow. The issue can crash the daemon and may also permit arbitrary code execution. Based on the available description, the flaw is consistent with a classic stack-based or otherwise fixed-size buffer overflow caused by insufficient bounds checking on logged command data before it is processed for display in the management interface. The record notes possible overlap with CVE-2006-0441 and CVE-2006-2212.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module (modules/exploits/windows/ftp/sami_ftpd_list.rb) that exploits a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in Sami FTP Server 2.0.1 on Windows XP SP3. The exploit targets the handling of the LIST command, requiring the 'Log' tab to be open in the server's management application for successful exploitation. The module allows the attacker to send a specially crafted LIST command that overflows a buffer and overwrites the return address with a pointer to a 'jmp esp' instruction found in tmp0.dll. The payload is customizable and supports up to 1500 bytes, with certain bad characters filtered. The exploit is operational and can execute arbitrary code on the target system. The only fingerprintable endpoint is the file path to the DLL containing the required instruction. The code is written in Ruby and is designed to be used within the Metasploit framework.
