CVE-2009-0215 is a stack-based buffer overflow in the GetXMLValue method of the IBM Access Support ActiveX control, implemented in IbmEgath.dll and distributed on IBM and Lenovo computers. Remote attackers can exploit the flaw through unspecified vectors to execute arbitrary code.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module (ibmegath_getxmlvalue.rb) that exploits a stack buffer overflow vulnerability in the IBM Access Support ActiveX control (IbmEgath.dll version 3.20.284.0). The exploit targets the GetXMLValue() method, which can be triggered via Internet Explorer (versions 6 or 7) on Windows XP or Vista. The module sets up a malicious HTTP server that serves a crafted HTML/JavaScript page. When a victim visits the page, JavaScript instantiates the vulnerable ActiveX control and triggers the overflow using a long string, allowing arbitrary code execution via a heap spray technique. The payload is customizable using Metasploit's framework, enabling the attacker to execute code of their choice on the victim's machine. The exploit is weaponized, as it is part of the Metasploit framework and supports flexible payloads.
