CVE-2009-0261 is a stack-based buffer overflow in EffectMatrix Total Video Player 1.31. The vulnerability is triggered when the application processes a crafted Skins\DefaultSkin\DefaultSkin.ini file containing an overly large ColumnHeaderSpan value. Improper bounds handling of this value can overflow a stack buffer, potentially allowing execution of attacker-controlled code in the context of the user running the application.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module targeting a buffer overflow vulnerability (CVE-2009-0261) in Total Video Player 1.3.1 for Windows. The exploit works by generating a malicious Settings.ini file, which, when opened by the vulnerable application, triggers a SEH-based buffer overflow, allowing arbitrary code execution. The module is written in Ruby and leverages Metasploit's FILEFORMAT and SEH exploit mixins. The payload is customizable and is appended to the malicious file, enabling the attacker to execute code of their choice. The exploit is operational and has been tested on Windows XP SP3, Windows 7, and Windows 8. The only fingerprintable endpoint is the Settings.ini file in the application's installation directory.
