CVE-2009-2570 is a stack-based buffer overflow in the Symantec.FaxViewerControl.1 ActiveX control implemented in WinFax\DCCFAXVW.DLL in Symantec WinFax Pro 10.03. The flaw is triggered when the control's AppendFax method processes an overly long argument without proper bounds checking, allowing attacker-controlled data to overflow a stack buffer. Because the vulnerable component is an ActiveX control that can be invoked from web content, a remote attacker can deliver a crafted page or script that instantiates the control and passes a maliciously long parameter to AppendFax, resulting in arbitrary code execution in the context of the user running the browser or hosting application.
