CVE-2010-0231 is an insufficient-entropy vulnerability in the SMB implementation of the Microsoft Windows Server service. Affected systems generate SMB authentication challenges using an insufficient source of entropy, allowing duplicate challenge values to occur. An attacker can issue a large number of authentication requests, exploit duplicate server-generated challenges, and spoof an authentication token to obtain access to files and other SMB resources.
