CVE-2010-0840 is a Java Runtime Environment vulnerability in Oracle Java SE and Java for Business 6 Update 18, 5.0 Update 23, and 1.4.2_25. The flaw is reportedly related to improper checks when privileged JRE methods are executed. An untrusted object extending a trusted class without modifying a particular method, or a similar interface trust issue, can bypass the intended trust boundary and execute arbitrary code. The issue is also known as the Trusted Methods Chaining Remote Code Execution Vulnerability.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module (modules/exploits/multi/browser/java_trusted_chain.rb) that exploits CVE-2010-0840, a privilege escalation vulnerability in the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) affecting version 6 prior to update 19 and version 5 prior to update 23. The exploit works by serving a malicious Java applet (Exploit.jar) via an HTTP server. When a victim visits the attacker's server with a vulnerable Java-enabled browser, the applet is loaded and leverages the trusted method chain vulnerability to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the Java process. The module supports multiple platforms (Java, Windows, Linux) and can deliver a variety of payloads, such as reverse shells or Meterpreter sessions. The structure is typical for a Metasploit browser exploit: it sets up an HTTP server, serves the malicious applet, and handles the resulting session. The main fingerprintable endpoints are the Exploit.jar file and its contained Java classes. The module is weaponized and ready for operational use within the Metasploit framework.
