A buffer overflow exists in the CreateDIBPalette function within win32k.sys on multiple versions of Microsoft Windows (XP SP3, Server 2003 R2 Enterprise SP2, Vista Business SP1, Windows 7, and Server 2008 SP2). The vulnerability is triggered when a local user performs a clipboard operation using the GetClipboardData API with a specially crafted bitmap containing a palette with an excessive number of colors. This can result in memory corruption due to improper bounds checking when processing the palette data.
