CVE-2010-4476 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in the Java Runtime Environment floating-point parsing implementation used by Double.parseDouble. During conversion of certain crafted decimal strings near the double-precision subnormal boundary, the estimation routine can oscillate indefinitely between two values instead of reaching its termination condition. This can hang the thread processing the conversion. Oracle Java SE and Java for Business 6 Update 23 and earlier, 5.0 Update 27 and earlier, and 1.4.2_29 and earlier are affected; downstream products using the vulnerable JRE behavior may also be affected.
