An integer overflow vulnerability exists in the F_READBOOTSTRAP ioctl implementation of the HFS, HFS+, and HFS+J filesystems in Apple Mac OS X XNU kernel (up to xnu-1504.7.4). The flaw is located in bsd/hfs/hfs_readwrite.c, where the sum of fbt_offset and fbt_length can wrap around, bypassing bounds checks and allowing unprivileged local users to read arbitrary filesystem data, including data they do not have permission to access. This vulnerability is specific to the HFS+ family of filesystems and can be exploited by crafting a malicious ioctl call.
