CVE-2011-2404 is a remote code execution vulnerability in HP Easy Printer Care Software 2.5 and earlier, specifically in the HPTicketMgr.dll ActiveX control. The flaw is due to insufficient input validation, allowing remote attackers to download and execute arbitrary programs on the client machine by enticing users to visit a malicious web page. This vulnerability is distinct from CVE-2011-4786 and CVE-2011-4787.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module targeting a remote code execution vulnerability (CVE-2011-2404) in the HP Easy Printer Care ActiveX control (HPTicketMgr.dll 2.7.2.0) on Windows systems prior to Vista. The exploit abuses a directory traversal flaw in the 'saveXML' method of the 'XMLSimpleAccessor' class, allowing an attacker to write arbitrary files (VBS and MOF) to sensitive locations on the victim's file system. The attack is delivered via a malicious web page, requiring the victim to use Internet Explorer with the vulnerable ActiveX control enabled. Upon successful exploitation, the module writes a VBS payload and a MOF file to the system, leveraging Windows Management Instrumentation to execute the payload and provide the attacker with remote code execution (typically a Meterpreter shell). The module also includes cleanup routines to remove the dropped files after exploitation. The only file in the repository is a Ruby script structured as a standard Metasploit exploit module, and it makes use of embedded JavaScript and VBS payloads to achieve its goals.
