CVE-2012-0876 is an inefficient-algorithmic-complexity vulnerability in the hash-array implementation of the Expat XML parser before version 2.1.0. Expat computed hash values in a manner that allowed attackers to predict and deliberately generate colliding XML identifiers. Processing XML containing many colliding identifiers degrades internal hash-table operations from expected average O(1) behavior toward O(n), causing excessive CPU consumption.
