CVE-2012-0937 affects the WordPress installation component, specifically wp-admin/setup-config.php, in WordPress 3.3.1 and earlier. During an incomplete or active installation, the setup script accepts a dbhost parameter and does not sufficiently limit the number of MySQL connection/query attempts that can be directed to an external MySQL server. As a result, a remote attacker can abuse the exposed installation script as an application-layer proxy to send repeated MySQL authentication or connection traffic to arbitrary external MySQL hosts. This is distinct from CVE-2011-4898. The issue is not a direct compromise of WordPress itself, but an abuse of WordPress installation functionality to generate uncontrolled outbound requests against third-party MySQL services.
