The toStaticHTML API (SafeHTML component) in Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 and 9, Communicator 2007 R2, and Lync 2010 and 2010 Attendee does not properly sanitize event attributes and script elements. This improper sanitization allows remote attackers to inject and execute arbitrary web script or HTML via crafted HTML documents, resulting in a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability. The vulnerable function is intended to sanitize HTML input but fails to remove all executable content, particularly event handlers and script tags.
