CVE-2012-4554 is an XML External Entity (XXE) vulnerability in the OpenID module of Drupal 7.x before 7.16. The flaw allows a remote OpenID server to supply a crafted XRDS file containing a malicious DOCTYPE declaration, enabling the attacker to read arbitrary files from the Drupal server's filesystem. The vulnerability arises from improper handling of XML input during OpenID discovery, where external entities are not properly restricted.

This repository contains a single Metasploit auxiliary module (modules/auxiliary/gather/drupal_openid_xxe.rb) that exploits an XML External Entity (XXE) vulnerability (CVE-2012-4554) in the OpenID module of Drupal 7.15 and 7.2. The exploit works by serving a malicious XRDS (XML) file from a fake OpenID endpoint, which is referenced during the OpenID authentication process. When the vulnerable Drupal instance parses this file, the XXE payload causes the server to read an arbitrary file (default: /etc/passwd) and leak its contents back to the attacker. The module allows the user to specify the target Drupal path and the file to read. The exploit is operational and provides file read capabilities but does not provide remote code execution. The main attack vector is network-based, targeting the Drupal web application over HTTP. The code is written in Ruby and is designed to be run within the Metasploit framework.
