CVE-2012-4940 is a directory traversal vulnerability in the View Log Files component of Axigen Free Mail Server / Axigen Mail Server web administration interface. The issue is caused by insufficient sanitization of directory traversal sequences such as '..' / '..\' in the fileName parameter. An attacker can supply crafted path traversal input to the fileName parameter in a download action to source/loggin/page_log_dwn_file.hsp, and to the fileName parameter in edit and delete actions on the default URI. As a result, the application can be coerced into operating on files outside the intended log directory, allowing arbitrary file read, download, or deletion on the underlying server.

This repository contains a single Metasploit auxiliary module (modules/auxiliary/admin/http/axigen_file_access.rb) targeting a directory traversal vulnerability (CVE-2012-4940) in the Axigen Mail Server WebAdmin interface (tested on version 8.10, Windows). The exploit requires valid credentials and network access to the WebAdmin interface (default port 9000). Once authenticated, the module can read or delete arbitrary files on the target system with SYSTEM privileges by exploiting improper input validation in HTTP GET requests. The module provides two actions: 'Read' (to retrieve file contents) and 'Delete' (to remove files). The code is written in Ruby and leverages Metasploit's HttpClient mixin for network communication. The endpoints targeted are specific to the Axigen WebAdmin's logging and file management pages. The exploit is operational and can be used to demonstrate or leverage the vulnerability in real-world scenarios where the preconditions are met.
