CVE-2012-4958 is a directory traversal vulnerability in NFRAgent.exe in Novell File Reporter 1.0.2. The flaw allows a remote attacker to send a crafted 126 /FSF/CMD request containing an FSFUI record with a FILE element that includes directory traversal sequences (".."), causing the agent to access files outside the intended directory scope. As a result, an unauthenticated remote attacker can read arbitrary files from the underlying host. The provided advisory places this issue among multiple critical vulnerabilities affecting the Novell File Reporter agent.

This repository contains a single Metasploit auxiliary module targeting a directory traversal vulnerability (CVE-2012-4958) in Novell File Reporter NFR Agent. The exploit allows remote attackers to retrieve arbitrary text files from the target system by sending a specially crafted XML record to the /FSF/CMD HTTP endpoint on TCP port 3037. The module constructs a directory traversal payload in the <FILE> field, computes an MD5 hash as required by the protocol, and sends the request. If successful, the contents of the requested file are extracted from the response and saved as loot. The module is written in Ruby and is designed to be run within the Metasploit Framework. It is operational and provides file read capabilities but does not provide a shell or code execution. The exploit is configurable for file path and traversal depth, and is effective against specific versions of the NFR Agent on Windows.
