CVE-2013-0221 is a stack-based buffer overflow in the SUSE coreutils-i18n.patch applied to GNU coreutils. The flaw occurs when the sort utility processes an excessively long string while using either the dictionary-order option (-d) or month-sort option (-M). The affected code invokes alloca with inadequately bounded stack allocation behavior, allowing the input to overflow stack memory and crash the process.
