CVE-2013-4859 is an authentication flaw in the INSTEON Hub model 2242-222 in which the web interface and exposed API do not require authentication or authorization before processing requests. As a result, remote requests to the management and automation interface can be issued anonymously, allowing direct interaction with connected home automation functions. The exposed interface also permits retrieval of operational information about paired devices and environment metadata, including device-related status and location-associated settings. The issue is compounded by the absence of transport security, which increases exposure to interception and replay of commands.
