CVE-2013-5704 affects Apache HTTP Server handling of HTTP trailer fields in requests using chunked transfer coding. Trailer fields can be merged into the inbound request-header collection after modules, including mod_headers, have already processed the original headers. A remote client can therefore place a header in the chunked-message trailer to reintroduce a header removed by a RequestHeader unset directive, bypassing the intended header restriction. Apache characterized the behavior as not inherently a security issue in httpd itself because modules handling gateway behavior are expected to safely process trailer fields.
