CVE-2014-0257 is a vulnerability in Microsoft .NET Framework's COM interoperability layers, specifically in the IManagedObject interface. The GetSerializedBuffer method allows for arbitrary deserialization of attacker-controlled data, leading to remote code execution (RCE) or privilege escalation. The vulnerability affects all .NET versions from 1.0 SP3 through 4.5.1 and can be exploited via crafted web content or .NET applications exposing a COM server endpoint. The underlying issue is a design flaw in the .NET COM interop, where unsafe deserialization using BinaryFormatter and the ObjectSurrogate class enables attackers to execute arbitrary code by sending serialized objects to a .NET COM server.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module (ms14_009_ie_dfsvc.rb) that exploits CVE-2014-0257, a vulnerability in the .NET Deployment Service (dfsvc.exe) on Windows. The exploit targets Internet Explorer (versions 8-11) running in Enhanced Protected Mode (sandboxed, Low Integrity) and leverages a process creation policy flaw to escape the sandbox and execute code with Medium Integrity. The module checks for the presence and vulnerable versions of dfsvc.exe and mscorlib.dll, then uses a PowerShell-based payload to execute arbitrary code. The exploit is operational and allows for customizable payloads, typically providing a Meterpreter shell to the attacker. The only file in the repository is the Metasploit module itself, written in Ruby, and it is designed to be used within the Metasploit Framework.
