CVE-2014-10021 is an unrestricted file upload vulnerability in UploadHandler.php in the WP Symposium plugin version 14.11 for WordPress. The vulnerable upload handler does not adequately restrict uploaded file types, allowing a remote attacker to upload a file with an executable extension. If the uploaded file is placed in a web-accessible location such as server/php/, the attacker can then directly request that file over HTTP and cause the server to execute attacker-supplied code.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module (wp_symposium_shell_upload.rb) that exploits a remote code execution vulnerability in the WP Symposium plugin for WordPress (CVE-2014-10021). The exploit targets versions prior to 14.12, leveraging improper file upload handling in /wp-symposium/server/file_upload_form.php to upload a malicious PHP file. The module then accesses the uploaded file to execute arbitrary PHP code with the privileges of the web server. The exploit is fully weaponized, allowing the attacker to deliver any Metasploit PHP payload, such as a reverse shell. The code is written in Ruby and follows the standard Metasploit module structure, with clear separation of initialization, vulnerability checking, payload generation, and exploitation steps. The main network endpoints involved are the vulnerable file upload script and the location where the payload is executed.
