CVE-2014-3478 is a buffer-overflow vulnerability in the mconvert function of libmagic's softmagic parser. When PHP's Fileinfo extension processes a crafted Pascal string through a FILE_PSTRING conversion, insufficient bounds handling can corrupt memory and crash the hosting PHP application. The flaw affects file versions before 5.19 and PHP versions before 5.4.30 and PHP 5.5 releases before 5.5.14.
