CVE-2014-7186 is an out-of-bounds memory access flaw in GNU Bash through 4.3 bash43-026, in the redirection implementation in parse.y. The issue, referred to as the "redir_stack" issue, is triggered by crafted use of here documents that causes Bash to access memory outside the bounds of an internal array while processing redirections. The primary documented consequence is application crash and denial of service; multiple vendor advisories also note the possibility of arbitrary code execution, but the core published description characterizes the impact as denial of service with possible unspecified additional impact.
