CVE-2014-7228 is a vulnerability in Akeeba Restore (restore.php) and related backup/update extensions for Joomla! and WordPress. The flaw arises because the code, when cleansing $_REQUEST, fails to remove parameters from $_GET and $_POST, but later accesses these superglobals via the getQueryParam function. This allows remote attackers to bypass encryption and execute arbitrary code by sending crafted command messages that extract malicious archives. Affected products include Akeeba Restore in Joomla! 2.5.4–2.5.25, 3.x–3.2.5, 3.3.0–3.3.4; Akeeba Backup for Joomla! Professional 3.0.0–4.0.2; Backup Professional for WordPress 1.0.b1–1.1.3; Solo 1.0.b1–1.1.2; Admin Tools Core/Professional 2.0.0–2.4.4; and CMS Update 1.0.a1–1.0.1.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module targeting a remote code execution vulnerability (CVE-2014-7228) in Joomla! via the Akeeba Kickstart component. The exploit abuses a PHP object deserialization flaw during the Joomla! update process, allowing an attacker to upload and execute arbitrary PHP code. The module works by sending crafted requests to specific Joomla! endpoints, uploading a ZIP archive containing a PHP payload, and then triggering its execution. The exploit is operational and provides remote code execution capabilities. The main file is written in Ruby and leverages Metasploit's HTTP client and file dropper utilities. The endpoints targeted are specific to the Joomla! update component, and the exploit is only effective during the update process.
