The XML Import/Export plugin in MantisBT 1.2.x fails to restrict access to its import and export pages. A remote attacker can upload arbitrary XML files through the import page or retrieve sensitive information through the export page. The issue can be chained with CVE-2014-7146 to execute arbitrary PHP code.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module (mantisbt_php_exec.rb) that exploits a post-authentication PHP code injection vulnerability in the MantisBT Import/Export plugin (versions 1.2.0a3 to 1.2.17). The exploit works by uploading a specially crafted XML file to the /plugins/XmlImportExport/ImportXml.php endpoint, abusing the use of preg_replace() with the /e modifier to execute arbitrary PHP code. The module supports authentication as any user, including anonymous if enabled, and can deliver any Metasploit PHP payload (such as a reverse shell or meterpreter). The module also includes logic to detect the MantisBT version via the SOAP API and to handle login and session management. The attack vector is network-based, targeting HTTP endpoints exposed by the vulnerable MantisBT instance. The code is weaponized, as it is part of the Metasploit framework and supports customizable payloads.
