Netsweeper WebUpgrade in versions before 3.1.10, 4.0.x before 4.0.9, and 4.1.x before 4.1.2 contains an authentication bypass vulnerability. By submitting a single quote character (') in the login and password parameters to webupgrade/webupgrade.php, a remote attacker can bypass authentication controls. This allows the attacker to perform privileged actions such as creating a system backup tarball, restarting the server, or stopping the filters on the server. The issue was initially reported as an SQL injection but is more accurately an authentication bypass.
