CVE-2015-3185 is an improper-authentication flaw in Apache HTTP Server 2.4.x affecting the internal ap_some_auth_required() API in server/request.c. The function did not distinguish Require directives that impose authorization requirements from those requiring authentication, and could report a request as authenticated although no authentication occurred. Modules written to depend on the Apache HTTP Server 2.2 API behavior could consequently make incorrect access-control decisions. The issue was addressed by replacing the unusable API with ap_some_authn_required() and introducing the ap_force_authn hook. Apache HTTP Server 2.4.16 was the first released upstream version containing the fix; downstream distributions may provide backported fixes.
