CVE-2016-3078 is an integer overflow vulnerability in the php_zip.c implementation of the zip extension in PHP prior to version 7.0.6. The vulnerability is triggered when a remote attacker provides a crafted call to the ZipArchive class methods getFromIndex or getFromName. Improper handling of integer values can result in a heap-based buffer overflow, leading to application crash or potentially other impacts. The vulnerable code fails to properly validate or check the result of arithmetic operations on user-supplied input, allowing for memory corruption.
