CVE-2016-3087 is an improper input-validation vulnerability in Apache Struts affecting versions 2.3.19 through 2.3.20.2, 2.3.21 through 2.3.24.1, and 2.3.25 through 2.3.28. When the REST Plugin is used and Dynamic Method Invocation is enabled, an unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit handling related to the exclamation-mark operator to execute arbitrary code.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module (struts_dmi_rest_exec.rb) that exploits a remote code execution vulnerability (CVE-2016-3087) in Apache Struts 2.3.20-2.3.28 (excluding 2.3.20.2 and 2.3.24.2) when the REST plugin and Dynamic Method Invocation (DMI) are enabled. The exploit works by sending a crafted HTTP POST request to a REST action endpoint, injecting OGNL expressions that allow arbitrary code execution. The module supports Windows, Linux, and Java targets, automatically uploading and executing a Metasploit payload (such as a reverse shell) on the compromised server. The main fingerprintable endpoint is the REST action URI (default: /struts2-rest-showcase/orders/3/), which can be customized. The exploit is weaponized, allowing for easy payload customization and automated exploitation via the Metasploit framework.
