CVE-2016-3627 is an uncontrolled-recursion vulnerability in libxml2 2.9.3 and earlier. When parsing a crafted corrupted XML document in recovery mode, the xmlStringGetNodeList function can recurse indefinitely because the infinite-recursion protection counter is not incremented on all recovery paths. The missing counter update prevents the parser from reaching its intended termination condition.
