CVE-2016-5676 is an improper authorization flaw in the web management interface of affected NUUO and NETGEAR surveillance products. The issue is in the /cgi-bin/cgi_system endpoint, which can be invoked directly without adequate authorization checks. By supplying the action cmd=loaddefconfig, a remote attacker with network access to the web interface can reset the administrator password. The vulnerable products include NUUO NVRmini 2 1.7.5 through 2.x, NUUO NVRsolo 1.7.5 through 2.x, and NETGEAR ReadyNAS Surveillance 1.1.1 through 1.4.1.

This repository contains a single Metasploit auxiliary module (nuuo_nvrmini_reset.rb) that exploits a vulnerability (CVE-2016-5676) in NUUO NVRmini 2 and NETGEAR ReadyNAS Surveillance devices. The exploit targets the web management interface (default port 8081) and allows an attacker to reset the device to its default configuration, including resetting the administrator password. For firmware versions before 1.7.6, this can be done unauthenticated; otherwise, valid admin credentials are required. The module works by sending an HTTP GET request to /cgi-bin/cgi_system with the cmd=loaddefconfig parameter. If authentication is needed, it first logs in via /login.php. The code is written in Ruby and is structured as a standard Metasploit module, making it easy to use within the framework. No hardcoded IPs or domains are present; the target is specified by the user. The exploit is operational and can be used to regain access to vulnerable devices or as part of a penetration test.
