CVE-2016-7053 is a NULL pointer dereference in OpenSSL 1.1.0 CMS parsing. Incorrect handling of the ASN.1 CHOICE type can pass a NULL value to a structure callback while freeing certain invalid encodings. The flaw affects CHOICE structures whose callbacks do not handle NULL values, allowing applications that parse maliciously invalid CMS structures to crash.
