CVE-2017-16249 is a remotely exploitable denial-of-service vulnerability in the Debut embedded HTTP server used in Brother printers, affecting versions up to 1.20. A single malformed HTTP POST request can cause the embedded web server to hang for approximately 300 seconds before eventually returning an HTTP 500 error. During the hang condition, the device web management interface becomes inaccessible and network print jobs are blocked. An attacker can repeatedly send the malformed request to sustain the unavailable state.

This repository contains a single Metasploit auxiliary module (modules/auxiliary/dos/http/brother_debut_dos.rb) that exploits a Denial of Service (DoS) vulnerability (CVE-2017-16249) in Brother printers running the Debut embedded HTTP server version 1.20 or earlier. The exploit works by sending a malformed HTTP POST request to the root URI ('/') of the target device, with a Content-Length header that is intentionally larger than the actual data sent. This causes the single-threaded web server to wait indefinitely for the rest of the data, rendering the printer's HTTP and printing services unresponsive for about 5 minutes. The module includes methods to check if the server is alive before and after the attack. The code is written in Ruby and is designed to be run within the Metasploit framework. No hardcoded IPs, domains, or other fingerprintable endpoints are present beyond the root URI ('/'). The exploit is operational and does not provide shell access or code execution, only a temporary denial of service.
