CVE-2017-3587 is a vulnerability in the Shared Folder component of Oracle VM VirtualBox, affecting versions prior to 5.0.38 and 5.1.20. The flaw allows a low-privileged attacker with local access to the infrastructure running VirtualBox to compromise the VirtualBox environment. Successful exploitation enables unauthorized creation, deletion, or modification of critical data accessible to VirtualBox, as well as the ability to cause a hang or repeated crash (denial of service) of the VirtualBox process. The vulnerability is rated as easily exploitable and can have a significant impact on the integrity and availability of the system.
