CVE-2017-6327 is a command injection vulnerability in Symantec Messaging Gateway prior to version 10.6.3-267. The vulnerability exists in the remote backup functionality exposed via the web interface, specifically in the 'remoteBackupPath' parameter. Due to insufficient input validation, authenticated attackers can inject arbitrary operating system commands, which are executed with root privileges by the backend backup process. The attack chain involves authenticating to the web interface (potentially using weak credentials), crafting a malicious payload for the 'remoteBackupPath' parameter, and triggering the backup process to achieve remote code execution as root.
