CVE-2017-6740 is a set of multiple buffer overflow vulnerabilities in the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) subsystem of Cisco IOS and Cisco IOS XE Software. The flaws can be triggered by an authenticated remote attacker sending crafted SNMP packets to an affected device over IPv4 or IPv6. The issue affects SNMP versions 1, 2c, and 3. For SNMP v1/v2c exploitation, the attacker must know the configured read-only community string; for SNMPv3, the attacker must possess valid SNMPv3 user credentials. Cisco indicates that devices with SNMP enabled and without explicit exclusion of the affected MIBs or OIDs should be considered vulnerable. Successful exploitation can result in arbitrary code execution on the device or force the device to reload.
