CVE-2017-6744 is one of multiple buffer overflow vulnerabilities in the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) subsystem of Cisco IOS and Cisco IOS XE Software. The flaw is triggered when an authenticated remote attacker sends a crafted SNMP packet to an affected device over IPv4 or IPv6. The issue affects SNMP versions 1, 2c, and 3. For SNMP v1/v2c exploitation, the attacker must know the configured read-only community string; for SNMPv3, the attacker must possess valid SNMP user credentials. Cisco states the vulnerabilities are due to a buffer overflow condition in the SNMP subsystem, and devices with SNMP enabled that have not explicitly excluded the affected MIBs or OIDs should be considered vulnerable. Successful exploitation can result in arbitrary code execution on the device or force the device to reload.
