CVE-2017-7442 is a remote code execution vulnerability in Nitro PDF Reader and Nitro PDF Reader Pro (version 11.0.3.173), where the Doc.saveAs function can be abused to write arbitrary files to the system, and the App.launchURL security dialog can be bypassed by injecting a '$' character into the URI path. These issues allow attackers to execute arbitrary code if a user opens a malicious file or visits a malicious page.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module targeting Nitro Pro PDF Reader version 11.0.3.173 (CVE-2017-7442) on Windows. The exploit abuses unsafe JavaScript APIs (saveAs and launchURL) in Nitro PDF Reader to write and execute arbitrary files on the victim's system. The module generates a malicious PDF file containing embedded JavaScript that writes an HTA file to the Windows Temp directory and then executes it. The HTA file, in turn, downloads a payload executable (such as Meterpreter) from the attacker's HTTP server and runs it, resulting in remote code execution. The exploit is highly reliable and requires the victim to open the crafted PDF. The main file is a Ruby script structured as a Metasploit module, and it leverages Metasploit's payload generation and HTTP server capabilities. Key fingerprintable endpoints include the Windows Temp directory for dropped files and the attacker's HTTP server for payload delivery.
