CVE-2018-0173 is an incomplete input-validation vulnerability in Cisco IOS Software and Cisco IOS XE Software when restoring encapsulated DHCPv4 option 82 information. The affected software insufficiently validates encapsulated option 82 data in DHCPOFFER messages received from DHCPv4 servers. An unauthenticated remote attacker can send a crafted DHCPv4 packet to an affected device; after the device forwards it to a DHCPv4 server, processing option 82 information encapsulated in the server response can trigger an error and reload the device.
