CVE-2018-1002204 affects the npm package adm-zip before version 0.4.9. The library's archive extraction logic improperly handles ZIP entry names containing directory traversal sequences such as ../, allowing files from a crafted archive to be extracted outside the intended destination directory. This is the Zip Slip vulnerability pattern: archive entry paths are resolved unsafely during extraction, so attacker-controlled filenames can escape the target path and overwrite arbitrary filesystem locations.
