CVE-2018-12542 affects Eclipse Vert.x versions 3.0.0 through 3.5.3. The vulnerability is in the StaticHandler component, which uses externally supplied input to construct a filesystem path intended to remain within a restricted base directory. On Windows systems, the handler does not properly neutralize backslash path sequences, allowing crafted input to resolve to files or directories outside the intended document root. This is a path traversal issue caused by improper limitation of a pathname to a restricted directory.
