CVE-2018-1305 is an improper access-control vulnerability in Apache Tomcat. Security constraints declared through Servlet annotations were applied only after the associated Servlet was loaded. Since such constraints apply to their URL pattern and subordinate URLs, a particular Servlet loading order could leave constraints unenforced and protected resources accessible without the intended authorization checks. Affected versions are Tomcat 9.0.0.M1 through 9.0.4, 8.5.0 through 8.5.27, 8.0.0.RC1 through 8.0.49, and 7.0.0 through 7.0.84.

This repository is a proof-of-concept (PoC) for CVE-2018-1305, a security constraint bypass vulnerability in Apache Tomcat. The structure includes a Java web application with two servlets: Servlet1 (protected by a ServletSecurity annotation) and Servlet2 (unprotected), mapped to nested URL patterns via web.xml. The index.jsp provides links to both endpoints. The README.md explains the vulnerability, affected Tomcat versions, and step-by-step instructions to reproduce the issue. The exploit demonstrates that, due to Tomcat's servlet loading order, accessing the unprotected /servlet1/servlet2/ endpoint before the protected /servlet1/ allows unauthorized access, bypassing the intended security constraints. The repository is intended for demonstration and educational purposes, showing how improper application of security annotations can lead to privilege escalation in web applications.
