CVE-2018-1313 is an improper input-validation vulnerability in Apache Derby Network Server versions 10.3.1.4 through 10.14.1.0. A remote client can submit a specially crafted network request that causes the Network Server to boot a database from a location chosen by the attacker, with attacker-controlled database contents. The request succeeds when the server is not protected by a Java Security Manager policy, or when its policy grants read access to the attacker-selected database location. The default Network Server policy distributed with affected releases is permissive enough for the attack to succeed.
