CVE-2018-15710 is a local privilege escalation vulnerability in Nagios XI 5.5.6, specifically in the autodiscover_new.php script. The vulnerability arises from improper input validation and insecure use of shell command execution functions, allowing authenticated local attackers to inject arbitrary commands. The script could be executed as root due to overly permissive sudoers entries, enabling attackers with access as the 'apache' or 'nagios' user to escalate privileges to root. The vulnerability is a result of insecure coding practices, including the use of escapeshellcmd() instead of escapeshellarg(), and misconfigured sudoers files that allow passwordless root execution of the vulnerable script.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module (modules/exploits/linux/http/nagios_xi_magpie_debug.rb) that exploits two vulnerabilities in Nagios XI <= 5.5.6: CVE-2018-15708 (unauthenticated remote code execution via magpie_debug.php) and CVE-2018-15710 (local privilege escalation). The module works by uploading a PHP web shell and a Meterpreter payload to one of several writable directories on the target system using the vulnerable magpie_debug.php endpoint. It then executes commands via the web shell to verify code execution and attempts to escalate privileges to root using known techniques. If successful, the attacker gains root access and a Meterpreter session. The module is weaponized, allowing for customizable payloads and automated exploitation. The main attack vector is network-based, targeting the HTTP(S) interface of Nagios XI. Several fingerprintable endpoints are present, including the vulnerable magpie_debug.php path and multiple writable directories used for payload upload.
