CVE-2018-16158 is a critical vulnerability in Eaton Power Xpert Meter 4000, 6000, and 8000 devices (firmware 12.x and 13.3.x.x and below), where a single SSH private key is hardcoded and distributed across all devices. The key is not properly protected, allowing remote attackers to authenticate via SSH as root (uid 0) using the public key authentication mechanism. This enables full device compromise and lateral movement across all affected meters.
