University of Washington IMAP Toolkit 2007f for UNIX is vulnerable to OS-command argument injection when opening remote IMAP connections. The imap_rimap function invokes tcp_aopen, which launches rsh using an IMAP server name without preventing injected command-line arguments. Where the server name is attacker-controlled and rsh has been replaced or linked to a program with incompatible argument semantics, such as SSH on affected Debian or Ubuntu configurations, an attacker can supply SSH options including ProxyCommand-related arguments and cause OS command execution.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module (modules/exploits/linux/http/php_imap_open_rce.rb) that exploits a vulnerability in PHP's imap_open function (CVE-2018-19518, CVE-2018-1000859) on Debian-based systems. The vulnerability allows remote code execution by abusing the way imap_open interacts with the system's rsh/ssh configuration, specifically leveraging the ProxyCommand option to execute arbitrary commands. The module targets several web applications (e107 v2, PrestaShop, SuiteCRM, Horde IMP H3) that use imap_open, requiring administrator credentials and, in some cases, knowledge of the admin URI. The exploit works by sending crafted HTTP requests to the target application, authenticating as an admin, and injecting a payload that is executed via the SSH ProxyCommand. The default payload is a reverse shell, but any command can be executed. The module includes checks for application presence and PHP version, and provides both automated and manual exploitation paths. The code is written in Ruby and is designed to be used within the Metasploit framework.
